Welcome Back, Kotter

Hey guys ..um how ya been?.. long time eh ?. So guess what we got some good stuff coming up soon here for you all.
Namely the Language Coffee House, and let me tell ya its shaping up to be a pretty good time.
The coffeehouse is used to showcase Canadian cultural diversity and its advantage and benefits, also to position the library as a welcoming and inclusive place in our community.

A couple more good reasons to come on down.

  1. English isn't the most commonly spoken language in the world: Mandarin and Spanish are the most commonly spoken languages in the world.
  2. Compete for jobs abroad: Even international companies like the UN and NATO use other languages besides English as an official language.
  3. Show respect to international colleagues: It's respectful to speak to a visitor or client in their native tongue.
  4. Gain independence: You'll feel more confident and self-sufficient if you can speak more than one language.
  5. Communicate with family members: Speak with foreign in-laws or new friends in their native tongue to bring you closer to them.
  6. Improve memory: Learning a language helps improve memory.
  7. Make new friends: When you travel, you can actually become lifelong friends with the people you meet if you're able to communicate easily.
  8. Understand your own culture: You'll draw connections and comparisons between your culture and your new country of study, giving you the opportunity to understand where you come from and how it's affected your personality.
  9. Learn more about food: Read recipes from Italy in Italian using real Italian ingredients, as a way to continue learning about a new culture.
  10. Improve your English: Learning the complexities of grammar will challenge you to consider English grammar for the first time since middle school.
  11. They're not all that hard: Not all languages are extremely difficult to learn, and you might be surprised at how easily you can learn one.
  12. It gets easier and easier: Once you've picked up Italian, it'll be easy for you to learn Portuguese and Spanish, too, and then even French.
So whatta ya say? There will be crafts, language lessons, coffee (BYOM), music, and all kinda sorts of good times. Just remember its on Febuary 26 and all you need to bring is an open mind and your own mug for coffee.

Hope to see you here keeping it classy
